Submissions

VOLUME 02 ISSUE 03 | Submissions open

Theme: Bitter

Deadline for submissions: 25th of October 2021

We accept submissions of short stories (fiction and creative non-fiction), poetry, articles, art, photography and curation of them. We recommend taking a look at our past issues before sending in a submission to better understand the sort of pieces we publish.

If you would like to make a submission to feature in our next issue, send us a 1-2 paragraph summary for your idea. We will get back to you as soon as possible, in sha Allah.

Submission Guidelines

Before making a submission, make sure to read through the following guidelines:

Your initial summary must be accompanied by a brief bio of yourself and your piece(s). We accept up-to three pieces per issue. We also accept previously published work but require details of this to ensure non-infringement.

Prose & Poetry

We accept all genres, but give preference to creative non-fiction. The writing does not have to fit 100% into the theme for the next issue. For short stories, word count should be under 2000 words; for poetry the words limit is 400 words. Please make sure that your prose gives your readers something to take away once they finish reading. We’re not looking for words that will make one feel depressed without reason!

Article

Word limit is 1500 words. Keep your article loosely related to theme but not restricted to it. Topics can be diverse, anything from current affairs to life-hacking to history revival: get creative! We want to read something meaningful.

Art & Photography

The current page dimensions we’re using for the magazine are 210mm x 297mm (8.27 inches x 11.7 inches) which is the standard A4 size. Please make sure your piece can fit onto this page size without losing any of its visuals. We will not accept anything intentionally offensive or distasteful. We will also not consider any drawings of living faces – human, animal or otherwise.

Curation

Please ensure that the show casing of any work shall not be considered as copyright infringement. We might require e-mail proof from contemporary authors/artists permitting the use of their works.

Rights

All our contributors retain their copyrights and have full control of their work.

Payment

We’re currently not big enough to pay any of our submitters but we do hope to be able to do so in the future, in sha Allah. Featured writers and artists will receive eBook copies of the issues they are published in.
